I have just visited the beautiful garden and home of May Gibbs. May Gibbs is the author and illustrator of “The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie”. I took a tour through her lovely old fashioned home with her typewriter and her old paint sets and mini old fashioned kitchen. The tour guide takes you through the house with great facts on what life was like for May. This tour is great for kids to see that there were no cd players or iPods; there was just a gramophone. And there were no laptops; just typewriters.
The garden is great in summer as you can explore and see a range of pretty flowers. After you have done the house tour and garden, you can have a cup of tea with scones up in the tea room overlooking the garden. There are also many events such as children’s crafts in the holidays through to Christmas Carols in winter. Nutcote has a great little gift shop where you can buy May Gibbs books if you haven’t read them. The young ones should read them too as they are children’s books with the characters simply made from Australian flora. This may inspire children to play and have fun in the garden with gumnuts and flowers, bringing their imagination to life.
